Getting doorbell press and motion notifications via Alexa Announcements

Opt to have Alexa announce when someone presses your Ring Video Doorbell or when motion is detected with Alexa Announcements.

Announcements are currently supported in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain.

How to enable Alexa Announcements

First, set up your Echo and Ring devices, so they work with Announcements.

  1. Connect the Echo device(s) to your Ring device(s). Learn more.
  2. If desired, set up two-way communication on your Echo.

Next, follow the steps below. These apply to both Echo Show and Echo speakers.

  1. Download the latest Alexa app.
  2. Tap Devices at the lower right corner of your screen.
  3. Tap All Devices in the top row on your screen.
  4. Tap the Video Doorbell or Security Camera you wish to be notified about.
  5. Turn on the Doorbell Press (for doorbells) and/or the Motion toggle (for both doorbells and security cameras).
    • You can select a separate Announcement for each device.
    • You can select from a number of available sounds.
  1. Note: Each Echo device will need its communication and Announcements features enabled, and the Do Not Disturb feature turned off. You won't get Announcements for any shared devices.

How to select which Echo Devices send Announcements

  1. Download the latest Alexa app.
  2. Tap Devices at the lower right corner of your screen.
  3. Tap All Devices.
  4. Tap the Video Doorbell or Security Camera you wish to be notified about.
  5. Tap Announcement Devices and select the Echo device(s) on which you wish to hear Announcements.
    • If you have multiple Echos with Announcements enabled, all of them will make the Announcement. You can adjust this on the Alexa app.

Note: When a motion alert is triggered on your Ring device, your Echo will flash yellow, make a chiming sound, and announce that someone is at the door. Compatible Echo devices with a screen will also show you a Live View from your Video Doorbell for 15 seconds after the doorbell is pressed.

If an announcement happens when you're not home

Announcements expire as soon as they are played on your Echo device. On your Alexa app, there will be a notification card for any Announcements that were delivered. However, it isn't possible to ask Alexa the history of Announcements.
