Linked Devices - Automatically record on cameras when Alarm is triggered

When your Ring Alarm is triggered, every second counts. With a Ring Protect subscription, you can set any Ring camera to start recording1 the moment your Alarm is triggered. To set up your Ring cameras to begin recording when your alarm is triggered, simply follow these instructions.

Setting up linked devices to start recording at an alarm:

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Open the side menu by tapping the three-lined menu icon in the upper-right corner of the screen.
  3. Tap Devices.
  4. Tap Base Station.
  5. Tap Base Station.
  6. Tap Linked Devices.
  7. Tap Add Linked Devices.
  8. On the “Add Linked Devices” page, tap the devices you wish to begin recording video when an alarm goes off or begins entry delay.

Note: Live View must be enabled in order to set a device for simultaneous recording. Turning Live View off on a device will supersede an order for the simultaneous record.

1 With a Ring Protect subscription, your Ring videos stored in the cloud are stored temporarily, for up to 180 days. Changing your video storage time will only affect videos that are recorded after you adjust your storage time setting. Check Ring Protect subscription plans for more information.

Ring takes recurring photo snapshots throughout the day so you can see what is happening between motion-activated events (videos) in your Event History Timeline. These photos are stored in your account for up to 7 days. To keep important photos beyond 7 days, download them to your PC or mobile device.
