Is Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) usable with the mounting brackets, solar mounts, charging cables, and wedge/corner kits from earlier generations of Ring Video Doorbell?

Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) is usable with the charging cables of earlier Video Doorbells. Mounting brackets and wedge/corner kits are not backwards compatible. Solar mounts are not optimised for Video Doorbell (2nd Generation).

Is Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) water resistant?

Yes. Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) is water resistant.

Can Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) withstand hot or cold temperatures?

Data usage and recording plans

Does Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) use cellular data all the time or just when it's activated?

Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) will only use cellular data when it’s activated by an event, recording an event, or when you access Live View via the Ring app. If the Video Doorbell doesn’t detect motion or isn’t activated with the app, it won’t use your data.

Does the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) keep footage for later review?

It can, however this requires a subscription to Ring Protect Plus, an optional service that allows you to view, save, and share video.

I have an unusually shaped front garden. How do I aim Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) in a direction other than straight ahead?

Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) can be adjusted to point in directions other than straight forward through the use of a Wedge or Corner Kit. 

There are two types of screws that came with my Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation). What is each screw used for?

In the product packaging there are four wood screws and two security screws. The wood screws are used to affix the mounting bracket to your door or wall. Once the device is installed, use the star-shaped end of the screwdriver bit to tighten the security screws into the bottom of Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) faceplate to help deter theft.


Note: For your safety, use only the short security screws under the faceplate. Using any other type of screw could damage the battery and create a potential fire hazard.
