Reduce Battery Aging with Optimized Battery Charging

Help extend the longevity of your camera and doorbell batteries by not keeping them fully charged all the time. Ring helps you do this by setting a charging limitation for all solar-powered doorbells and cameras, and plug-in and wired devices that also take a Quick Release Battery Pack.

Certain Ring devices will hold your battery charge and not exceed a threshold of around 80 percent.

The charging limitation exists for the following Ring devices:

Video Doorbells

  • Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation)
  • Ring Video Doorbell 2
  • Ring Video Doorbell 3
  • Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus
  • Ring Video Doorbell 4
  • Ring Battery Doorbell Plus

Security Cameras

  • Stick Up Cam
  • Stick Up Cam Pro
  • Spotlight Cam
  • Spotlight Cam Plus
  • Spotlight Cam Pro

Note: You can check whether your Solar Panel is connected and charging on your device dashboard in the Ring app.

If there is a sun on the battery icon, the Solar Panel is connected but not charging your Ring device. The Solar Panel will wait until the battery is below a certain level threshold before recharging it.

If there is a sun and a lightning bolt on the battery icon, it means the Solar Panel is connected and charging your Ring device.

When the lithium battery ages, it will gradually lose its capacity to a hold a charge—even if your Ring device is connected to solar, adapter, or wired power.
