Troubleshooting Insufficient Power Issues: Ring Video Doorbell Pro and Video Doorbell Pro 2

Important:
The name of Video Doorbell Pro has changed to Wired Doorbell Plus.   The name of Video Doorbell Pro 2 has changed to Wired Doorbell Pro. All the great features of your Video Doorbell Pro and Pro 2 are still the same. If you purchased a Wired Doorbell Plus, you can use instructions for Video Doorbell Pro. For Wired Doorbell Pro you can use instructions for Video Doorbell Pro 2.

How to troubleshoot the most common causes of insufficient power with your Video Doorbell Pro or Video Doorbell Pro 2.

  • Video Doorbell Pro requires a doorbell transformer rated at 16-24 VAC 50/60HZ, 10-40VA max.
  • Video Doorbell Pro 2 requires a doorbell transformer rated at 16-24 VAC 50/60HZ, 30-40VA max.

Symptoms of insufficient power

  • Regularly losing connection to your wifi network.
  • Freezing up or shutting down during the ringtone sound after a button press.
  • Regularly shutting off (the white light on the front will turn off).
  • Freezing up during a live event.
  • Not correctly ringing your existing internal doorbell.
  • Night vision doesn't work.
  • Doorbell works fine for a couple of events and then stops working.

How to troubleshoot insufficient power

  • If your Video Doorbell Pro or Video Doorbell Pro 2 is hooked up to an internal doorbell chime, check if your Pro Power Kit is properly installed.
  • If you have an older version of the Video Doorbell Pro and are using it with an internal chime, check the cable installation of your Pro Power Kit.
    • The Pro Power Cable (with orange fastening clips) is no longer necessary with newer versions of the Video Doorbell Pro and Video Doorbell Pro 2.   
  • Make sure your Video Doorbell Pro or Video Doorbell Pro 2 is properly hooked up directly to a transformer. Learn more
