Using the Diode Included with Your Ring Video Doorbell (1st Generation)

The diode included with your Ring Video Doorbell (1st Generation) connects your Video Doorbell to an existing doorbell's digital doorbell (a doorbell with a speaker that plays a melody).

The diode should not be used with a mechanical doorbell (a traditional 'ding dong' bell with a mechanical striker inside), or if you're not hardwiring your Video Doorbell.

Note: Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) does not need a diode. If there is no diode in the box, you most likely have the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation), which has a built in-diode. Find out whether you have Ring Video Doorbell (1st generation) or Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation)
