Video Doorbell Pro Requirements in Europe
This article applies to Video Doorbell Pro users within the US and Canada. Video Doorbell Pro is not compatible with existing 8-12 VAC wired doorbells in Europe. Find out more about the installing the Video Doorbell Pro if you're in Europe.
Check Your Chime Kit Compatibility
For your safety, only use an existing doorbell transformer within the range specified below or compatible Ring accessories to power your device.
For connecting to an existing doorbell system:
- Hardwired transformer (16 to 24 VAC, 50/60Hz, 10VA to 40VA)
Ring accessories are sold separately and may include:
- Hardwired Transformer (16 VAC, 30VA)
- Plug-In Adapter (24Vdc, 500mA)
Using incompatible power sources can damage your device and cause electric shock.
Mechanical vs digital chimes
To identify which type or doorbell chime you have, listen to the sound it makes.
- A mechanical chime uses a physical bell and a mechanical hammer and makes a traditional ding-dong sound.
- A digital chime plays pre-recorded digital tones through an electronic speaker and often has a selection of different tones you can choose from.
If you're unsure what type of doorbell chime you have, remove the front of your chime box and look inside for a bell and hammer or an electronic speaker.
