Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) will only use cellular when activated by an event, recording an event, or when you access Live View in the Ring app. If the Video Doorbell doesn’t detect motion or isn’t activated with the app, it won’t use your data.

It can, however, an optional Ring Protect Plan subscription is required to save and share event video.

There are two types of screws included in the product packaging:

  • The four wood screws are used to secure the mounting bracket to your door or wall.
  • The two star-shaped security screws are used to to tighten the screws into the bottom of the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) faceplate to help deter theft.


For your safety, use only the short security screws under the faceplate. Using another type of screw could damage the battery and create a potential fire hazard.
