How to Connect your Ring Doorbell with Your In-Home Chime

Hear your doorbell inside your home by connecting the chime for your hardwired, battery-powered Ring Video Doorbell from the Ring app.

Video Doorbells that can be connected to your chime in the Ring app:

  • Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation)
  • Ring Video Doorbell 3
  • Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus
  • Ring Video Doorbell 4
  • Ring Battery Doorbell Plus

Video Doorbells that require hardwiring to your electrical system and can be connected to your chime during the in-app setup process:

  • Ring Video Doorbell Pro
  • Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2
  • Ring Video Doorbell Elite

Some Video Doorbells cannot connect to existing in-home chimes.
Use a Ring Chime, Ring Chime Pro wifi extender or connect to an Echo (Alexa) device to hear in-home chimes for Ring Video Doorbell (1st Generation), Ring Video Doorbell 2 and Ring Video Doorbell Wired.

Automatic chime detection

To automatically detect and configure your in-home chime:

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Tap the menu (☰).
  3. Tap Devices.
  4. Tap the doorbell you want to connect to a chime.
  5. Tap Device Settings.
  6. Tap In-home Chime Settings.
  7. Tap Automatic Chime Detection.
    • Wait for the Ring app to detect your in-home chime.
    • If a mechanical chime is detected, you may see the following message: “Is your Ring Doorbell Wired to an in-home doorbell chime?” Choose “Yes, I have an in-home chime.
  8. Tap Ring my In-home Chime.
  9. Follow the instructions and push the button on your Ring doorbell.
  10. If it doesn’t ring correctly, select one of these options: “My chime rang partially” or “My chime didn’t ring.”
  11. The Ring app will adjust the device settings automatically and prompt you to test your doorbell again.
  12. If the app is unable to detect an in-home chime, it will redirect to the start of the chime auto detection process.

Manually set up your in-home chime

After you have set up your doorbell in the Ring app:

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Tap the menu (☰).
  3. Tap Devices.
  4. Tap the doorbell you want to connect to a chime.
  5. Tap Device Settings.
  6. Tap In-home Chime Settings.
  7. Tap Advanced Settings.
  8. Select your Chime Type.
  9. Tap Continue.
    • Give your Video Doorbell a few minutes to update, then press the button to test the chime.
  10. Tap Ring my in-home chime.
    • If the doorbell doesn’t ring, you may need to wait a few more minutes for it to connect.
    • You may have selected the wrong type of chime:
      • A mechanical chime makes a traditional ding-dong sound
      • A digital chime has an extended, more melodic sound.
    • If you think you may have selected the wrong chime type, return to the Chime Settings and choose a different chime type.
